One year at Empath!

One year ago on Oct 21 I started my career at Empath! After four years at ACT where I worked on interoperability specifications and leading two software development projects to work with “learning standards”, I became the Director of Skills Content at Empath. It was only the second time I’ve actively interviewed to change organizations of employment (3 roles in Fresno Unified, OpenEd, 3 job titles within ACT in 4 years). Just as at the first startup I was a part of — OpenEd — every day is exciting and different, and I’ve been able to contribute to pretty much all parts of the company except the coding.

I work a lot with skills taxonomies, product management and meet weekly with customers. I’ve learned a lot more about the corporate/consulting world, and have been able to leverage my strengths in learning (courses) and machine readable skills/competencies. The future is bright both for Empath’s mission and business objectives, and I’m thrilled to be along for the ride. At some point I’ll blog about ‘tech’ again, but right now life is enough with the job, kids in school and my wife attending the University of Oregon for her doctorate in Special Education! We moved to Eugene, OR this past June and have enjoyed exploring the many cool outdoor and biking-related things around the city and state!
